Android development

Android Inc developed the Android operating system and was later bought by Google in 2005. The Linux-based OS was designed to be used on touchscreen devices and in 2007 was unveiled as part of the initiative to create open standards for both hardware and software within the telecommunications domain; the Open Handset Alliance.

All software created by Android is licensed under the Apache License, meaning it is open-source and can be freely modified by developers around the world.
